In
2004, 75% of new phones shipped had an in-built camera
or video recorder. Future Images predicts that 75
billion photographs will be taken in 2005, 90% of
these by phones. Photographs are how people across
the world capture memories and share special moments,
and camera phones have captivated people’s imaginations
because its fun to have a camera in their pocket.
Ripple Share focuses on delivering
an easy-to-use sharing experience for mobile phone
users. Share is not about providing access to an online
album. It is a made-for-mobile service that allows
consumers to publish photographs and videos from their
mobile phones, manage their media collection via a
WAP browser, and share their content with specific
friends, or with the general public.
Share allows consumers
with smartphones to publish their photographs and
videos with a single click. Integrated into the native
camera application, it delivers a dramatic improvement
on the usability of the sharing process. For non-smartphone
users, Share allows media files to be published via
MMS or “image uploader”.

WAP access to the albums allows content managent, including downloading photos or videos back to the phone when required.
Using
Ripple’s viral marketing module, the consumer
can virally share photos and videos with friends.
Friends receive service messages that bring them directly
to the media file: which is both effective as well
as less expensive for the sender. These friends can
then virally pass them on to others, if they have
the permission to do so from the content creator.
Ripple’s loyalty module rewards consumers for
the data traffic they generate by sharing the media
files with friends.
Further, consumers can share
their media files with the wider public, by publish
them to a WAP portal, just like a content provider
publishes wallpapers and games. The consumer thus
becomes a content publisher, defining the category
the content must be placed in, keywords associated
with the content item, and even pricing parameters.
Their rights are protected by Creative Commons, a
copyrights framework designed for this use, that we
apply to the mobile.

Other
consumers can access this WAP portal, and browse through
the categories available, downloading what they like
and sharing it with friends. A budding skateboarder
downloads the latest skateboarding moves recorded
by an expert on the ramps, using a phone. How about
a short story delivered in episodes each day? Ripple’s
loyalty module rewards the content creator with points,
and these points can be redeemed for discounts against
other services offered.
Allowing consumers to publish
content to a WAP portal that is accessed in the identical
way as a premium/branded portal is, creates a dynamic
eco-system for niche content. The service provider
can opt for a content moderation service we provide.
Ripple delivers automatic
recommendations of the published content, providing
marketing exposure to the “long tail”
of mobile content. By engaging consumers more significantly
in the content creation and consumption dynamic, the
service provider brings satisfaction to their lives
while significantly boosting data revenue and creating
a culture of mobile-internet usage. |
